A common voice

An important function is to provide a coherent voice for the industry to promote its interests to government particularly those of Scotland, the UK and European Union.

It is recognised that there are disparate interests within the industry and indeed there are those within it whose goals may, from time to time, conflict with others. Scotland however is a small country and no particular area of its shipping industry is large enough to support an organisation such as this to promote its individual, and perhaps, narrow objectives.

SSI is intended to allow every member the opportunity to have an input into any issue that effects the industry and in most cases it should be possible to come to an industry view which can then be promoted by the Initiative.
