Because of the low profile of shipping in this country the third, equally important function of the Initiative, is an educative one. There are two aspects to this:-

Firstly within the Initiative itself by means of conferences, meetings and the website. In this way, Members will benefit from the shared knowledge of associated and affiliated businesses in their own sector.

The main focus however will be to educate the public about shipping in Scotland in all its forms. This will be achieved, through the media, via briefings and press releases. Of greatest importance within this group will be pupils and students of the country's schools and colleges.

Shipping is a vibrant and indeed resurgent business and for it to continue to be so we need to encourage young people to look to the sector for a challenging career, both at sea and ashore.
