To mangle Spandau Ballet’s lyrics, luck has left the registrant of gold.co.uk standing so tall as they successfully sold their domain name for an apparently record-breaking £600,000.
The purchase by Rob Halliday-Stein – an entrepreneur and founder of BullionByPost one of the UK’s largest Internet gold dealers – is thought to have exceeded the £560,000 fetched by cruises.co.uk seven years ago.
While valuable domain names in the .uk space can and do attract large purchase prices, .com remains the focus of high value domain transactions, with insurance.com changing hands for USD$35.6m (GBP£23.5m) in 2012.
